The 2022/2023 season was memorable for all Arsenal fans. Filled with highs and occasional gutting lows, but overall, a very enjoyable season for fans around the world. It was a compelling title challenging season for the gunners. It was the first time in nearly 20 years coming this close to winning the Premier League title. It saw the gunners achieve their second highest points tally in the club's history, achieving 84.
In the beginning of the season, Arteta made a variety of singings, from goalkeeper Mat Turner, defender Oleksandr Zinchenko and striker Gabriel Jesus, being one of the most influential players of the season. The gunners had a great start to the premier league season, winning 5 games in a row eventually losing to Manchester united in game week 6. After this loss Arsenal pushed on, taking points from teams like Liverpool and Chelsea and West Ham. Ending 2022 in fashion we played Brighton away, winning and ending the year at the top of the league table with 43 points from 16 games played.
During January Arteta further strengthened the team signing a forward named Leandro Trossard and defender Jakup Kiwior. Arsenal kept pushing for the title, taking revenge and points from Manchester United and teams like Newcastle and our North London rivals Tottenham. Wrapping up January at the top of the table with 50 points and 5 ahead of Manchester City. However, in February we would have a major setback, facing Manchester City at home, losing 3-1 meaning the team would no longer be at the top of the table.
The team responded by impressively winning 7 games in a row after this defeat, but soon to follow would be a decrease in performance. William Saliba, the backbone of our defense would succumb to a back injury, being out for most of the season. This was a heavy blow for Arsenal as we then drew to Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton three times in a row and lost to Manchester City once again, crushing hopes of winning the title, seeing City one point behind Arsenal with 2 games in hand. The last few games were shaky for Arteta, once again feeling the absence of Saliba, with wins against Chelsea and Newcastle, then two losses to Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal ended the season with a 5-0 win over Wolves, ending our roller-coaster of a season on a high note. With previous captain Granit Xhaka scoring 2 in his last game with the Gunners. Arsenal finished second in the league with 26 Wins 6 draws and 6 losses with Manchester City victorious. Arsenal learned a lot from this season. Learning what it's like to be in a title race and knowing what the team is capable of. It was a pleasure for fans being on the journey with the team.
